About Us
At Bundaberg Jiu-Jitsu we teach one of the most popular, effective and useful martial arts and self defence, Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. Our classes are reliable for men, women and children from all walks of life as we collectively improve and work together as a community to continuely raise the standard of jiu-jitsu in the region.
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu also commonly known as 'BJJ' is a martial art based on grappling, ground-based fighting and submission holds. It focuses on taking an opponent to the ground and using a range of techniques to gain and secure dominant and advantageous positions which lead to a number of submissions.
BJJ also revolves around the concept that a smaller weaker person can successfully defend themselves against bigger and stronger opponients by using techniques in leverage and weight distribution. It can be practiced in both a Gi uniform or without commonly refered to as 'no-Gi'

BJJ is the perfect art to learn for self defence as it is tested in competition and self defence scenarios whilst also offering a training methodology that constantly tests students against other resisting opponents, without the danger of striking. This makes BJJ perfect for anti bullying and self defence as it relies heavily on control, instead of violent and deadly striking to stop an attacker.
